There is an opportunity to join the Operations Division; Operations & Maintenance – Western Area Department, as a Gas Controller.




Reports to: Supervisor, Gas Control 


 


KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


HES and Emergency Response



  • Participate as appropriate in safety awareness and training programs.

  • Understand WAPCo House rules, life-saving rules and essence of STOP Work Authority

  • Modify personal behaviour to prevent losses or incidents

  • identify potential workplace hazards and unusual circumstances, and report/resolve them speedily

  • Respond appropriately to line leaks or other emergency situations and Lead team members in support- ing hypothetical drills.

  • Act as the Incident Commander “IC” (from the control center) on all pipeline incidents until someone more qualified takes the IC role and or a person arrives on site and the IC role is transitioned over to them. Once (or if there is personnel on site) there is another person filling the IC role, the Gas Controller can be used to coordinate resources needed to respond to the incident.

  • Review operating manuals, emergency plans and provide input; maintain availability of pertinent man- uals and system drawings; file pertinent documentation.

  • Monitor emergency phone line and coordinate follow-up activity with operations personnel; handle incident regulatory reporting as needed.



Gas Pipeline Monitoring & Control



  • Safely coordinate the commissioning, testing, start up, control, manage and operate the natural gas pipeline system pressures, volumes, quality, integrity, flow, and nominations/receipts/deliveries for all gas assets operated by WAPCo across Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana utilizing a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system; maintain operating parameters within safety regularly, con- tractual and commercial and troubleshoot upset conditions,

  • Coordinate gas control activities with field operations personnel giving them work direction as needed to maintain the schedule and work with them on problem resolution and other activities that affect pipeline operations.

  • Receive, review, and implement gas receipt and delivery schedule in accordance with applicable oper- ating parameters and monitor the pipeline for system and schedule imbalances

  • Monitor system imbalances and assist operations and measurement personnel in addressing imbalance issues.

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day operational interface between WAPCo and shippers and suppliers and with the WAPCo field locations.

  • Interface with operations personnel, customers, and suppliers/shippers on gas pipeline systems to en- sure close communication and good relationships are maintained.

  • Assist customers and suppliers/shippers with their requests for information and changes in deliveries to or receipts.

  • Coordinate and communicate with internal and external customers on any changes in operational, sup- ply or delivery conditions

  • Develop, update and submit reports as required by internal and external customers.

  • Review the controller’s logbook daily (reviewing from the last time they were on shift forward to date and record all pertinent operational data and events into the Controller’s logbook that happens on the shift and any upcoming operational and or schedule input on the next shifts.

  • Make sure that all system operational upsets are documented and reported to the appropriate party as the situation dictates.



SCADA & Communication



  • Monitor SCADA and the communication infrastructure that support system operation and all out re- sources that are needed to maintain the systems performance

  • Maintain, update and distribute the SCADA help screens, key contact lists and all other reference ma- terial that the Controllers Use on a daily basis.

  • Identify data communication problems and coordinate resolution with SCADA Communications Tech- nician and the SCADA support and operations personnel. Work closely with internal information sys- tems and measurement groups on required solutions, modifications and problem issues.

  • Anticipate stakeholders’ needs for information and apply WAPCo communication guidelines.




Required Skills or Experience



  • Degree or HND in Physical Sciences: Physics, Chemistry, and Geology & Engineering, Gas, Chemical, Process, Material, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

  • A minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience in a related industry.
