HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGER

  • Location: Spintex, Accra (with frequent travel to project sites in all regions in Ghana)

Position Summary

The reputable construction company with 30 years of experience in the construction sector in Ghana, that is committed to improving the quality of life of the Ghanaian through the provision of appropriate and sustainable infrastructure development solutions is in search of an experienced and dynamic individual to take up the role of Health and Safety Manager.



The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable in the legislative obligations regarding health, safety and environment (HSE) within the construction sector, and able to develop and implement health and safety policies and practices.



Scope

The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for the overall HSE direction of the company. He/she is responsible for developing policies and procedures to ensure the health and safety of all employees, contractors and visitors of the company, and to provide the main source of expert advice on health and safety matters to the company.



Responsibilities



The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for the following duties:




  • Develop and review policies, procedures and practises to ensure the health and safety of all employees, contractors and visitors.

  • Provide advice and guidance to the company and its managers on health and safety matters.

  • Monitor the company’s operations, processes, procedures, practises, facilities and equipment to ensure that it complies with health and safety regulations, and Disability Discrimination Act.

  • Investigate and report on accidents and related incidents, recommending any changes that may be necessary, to ensure that the company complies with health and safety regulations.

  • Carry out a risk analysis for the company and recommend any changes that may be necessary.

  • Maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Provide HSE training and awareness to managers and staff. 




Required Skills or Experience



  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field is required. A master’s degree is a plus.

  • Professional certifications in Health and Safety by a national or internationally recognized organization.

  • A minimum of 10 years working experience in a similar role; preferably in the construction sector.

  • Experience in operations or project management is an added advantage.



Skills and Competence




  • Excellent knowledge/experience on Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments

  • Excellent knowledge on Fire Safety Management

  • Understanding of current concepts in health and safety

  • Understanding of Ghanaian Laws as it relates to health and safety 

  • Knowledge of audit and inspection 

  • Industry-specific or environmental experience

  • Good analytical and problem solving skills

  • Leadership and communication skills

  • Good interpersonal skills
