Description

This position is based in Accra, Ghana at the Head Office of World Education.  The Disability and Inclusion Advisor reports to the Program Director and is responsible for designing, implementing, and measuring disability inclusive strategies in agreed work plans. She/he will work to improve inclusion imbalances in all areas of the project and ensure that all STAGE employees, teachers, facilitators, and volunteers have been trained in inclusive strategies. 



Key Responsibilities




  • Develop and coordinate activities focused on disability inclusive approaches with the primary objective of supporting the enrollment, retention and transition of adolescent girls in formal and informal tracks.

  • Develop and deliver trainings and sessions on the inclusion of girls with disabilities in accelerated learning programs in a non-formal setting.

  • Co-develop, in coordination with other program staff, equitable teaching and learning material with a specific focus on girls with disabilities 

  • Strengthen the disability inclusive development capacity of Downstream Partners through the provision of training, as well as ongoing mentoring and support.

  • Provide support to develop and disseminate papers on social inclusion. 

  • Support the mainstreaming of social inclusion throughout the activities of all downstream partners.

  • Support staff and downstream partners in adopting inclusive programs and implementing policies on a community level. 

  • Identify best practices and provide recommendations.

  • Gather and disseminate relevant information regarding disability mainstreaming.

  • Document and disseminate lessons learned.

  • Build partnerships and networks between government, Key Agencies and civil society.

  • Engage appropriate key stakeholders, such as Ministry of Education (SPED, Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection, (Social Welfare), Local Government (Department of Community Development) etc.  

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.




Required Skills or Experience



  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Disability/ Inclusion, Gender Studies, Social Sciences/Development Studies

  • At least 5 years of experience in managing Disability/ gender and Inclusive oriented programs

  • Demonstrated knowledge, design and application of child protection programing.

  • Experience in gender-related and inclusive education activities in Ghana 

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Exceptional written and spoken communication skills (including presentations) required



Preferred:




  • Strong background in Disability/ GESI analysis, strategic planning, and gender equity integration, disability education and child protection

  • Experience planning and facilitating meetings, identifying community needs, working with community leaders and key stakeholders

  • Knowledgeable in monitoring and evaluation standards with a gender and inclusive focus

  • Demonstrated training experience 

  • Demonstrated experience building partnerships and networks between government and civil society

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
