Purpose


The overall objective of this role is to ensure the efficient workings of an Accounts department and to ensure there is timely reporting running of the accounting function. The Senior Financial Accountant reports to the Finance Director.

Key Deliverables / Tasks



  • Ensure each balance sheet account is reconciled with sub-ledger accounts and with relevant statements issued by/to external parties on a monthly basis e.g. banks, stock, creditors, debtors, fixed assets. 

  • Perform VAT reconciliations, statutory reconciliations and ensure all other returns are accurate and up to date 

  • Pass journal entries for accruals, depreciation, provisions, and prepayments

  • Manage the Accounts Payable team and lead process improvements in order to deliver an effective payments cycle and high-quality service 

  • Perform inter-company Account reconciliations and ensure no outstanding reconciling items with head office

  • Maintain the company’s fixed asset register for all fixed assets - clearly identifying the acquisition date, cost, accumulated amortization/depreciation, net book value, location, and other relevant details.  Run monthly depreciation and

  • Handle and reconcile staff imprest accounts on a monthly basis and send regular reports to the General Managers

  • Perform account allocation to clear outmatched transactions

  • Prepare and assist in budget and tax assessments

  • Prepare payroll and file PAYE and SSNIT

  • Rationalise the number of supplier accounts with a view to optimizing the use of preferred suppliers and ensure new suppliers are duly approved by the Finance and Administration Director

  • Prepare a forecast of supplier and Bank payments for the following month

  • Prepare monthly management accounts

  • Lead the Account receivable team and ensure cash flow management

  • Lead in inventory control and quarterly stock take

  • Perform costing of landed goods and liaise with warehouse team

  • Lead and train subordinates to ensure the efficiency of the team

  • Carry out ad-hoc tasks as required by the Finance Director.





Required Skills or Experience


Formal education, professional qualifications or accreditations from industry bodies



  •  BSC/Bcom Accounting

  •  Must be (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) Qualified.




Skills & Knowledge


Technical, specialist, or professional skills required, indicating the level of expertise



  •  Experience and capability to manage deliverables within defined time frames.

  •  Strong accuracy and high-quality work ethic

  •  Excellent excel skills (i.e., lookup, sum if, pivot tables)

  •  Strong communication skills

  •  Proactive, enthusiastic

  •  Team player

  •  Knowledge or ERP system e.g. Epicor is an advantage



Experience


Type and length of functional/ professional experience



  •  At least 5 years in a General Ledger Function with supervisory experience

  •  Experience of high-level use of Excel and IT Savvy



Preferred Background
