Total Family Health Organisation (TFHO) is an indigenous Ghanaian social marketing organization duly registered in accordance with the laws of Ghana on February 1, 2017. We partner with government, private sector, and civil society is to improve the health of people living in Ghana primarily through implementation of innovative evidence-based interventions that increases access to and utilization of health products and services in a measurable and impactful way. Our key intervention areas include: Reproductive (including family planning and HIV), Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (RMNCH), communicable and non-communicable diseases, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), nutrition, and malaria. Social and Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) and social marketing remains our unique expertise. We utilize our deep insight and skills in SBCC and social marketing to promote positive social and behavior change among individuals and communities using strategies that address the interests of the people we are trying to reach, the obstacles to change and the many forces that influence behavior and choice.

Overview of Activity and Scope of Work



TFHO is searching for a consultant to serve as lead writer of a publishable research manuscript for three (3) research studies. Each of the three  manuscripts will be presented to high quality reputable peer-reviewed international journals. 



The research studies are as follows:




  1. Psychographic Segmentation of Male Condom Users and Nonusers in Greater Accra region of Ghana (qualitative study).

  2. Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Related to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Family Planning in Northern, North East, and Savannah Regions of Ghana (a mixed-methods study)

  3. Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Related to Umbilical Cord Care in the Northern, North East, and Savannah Regions of Ghana (a qualitative study).



TFHO shall supply the consultant with:




  1. The proposals for each of the research studies with the background, research questions, objectives, study design and methodology, data collection tools etc.

  2. Proof of ethical approval for each study from the Ghana Health Service Ethics Review Committee (GHSERC).

  3. All data sets (qualitative and quantitative) necessary for the consultant to clean, analyse and draft each of the three publication manuscripts to be sent to the selected reputable journals. All data submitted shall be the proprietary property of the USAID Ghana Health Marketing Activity.

  4. Applicants should note that TFHO shall pay for any journal submission fees that may be incurred. The applicant will however be responsible for obtaining any username and password details that may be required in the payment process.



 



Deliverables




  • The write-up and delivery of three (3) high-quality manuscripts for each study (in English) polished editorially and rigorous in terms of literature review, data analysis, presentation of results, robust discussion, conclusions and recommendations and citations/references.

  • Interim drafts shall be presented to TFHO via regular update calls and meetings.

  • Recommend to TFHO at least one reputable journal for each of the three research studies. The journal recommendation for each research manuscript should be in close alignment with the nature and type of the research study (the three study titles indicated above).

  •  Submit the final manuscript for each study to one journal at a time until full acceptance and onward publishing

  • Lead in any manuscript revisions per journal guidelines and feedback.

  • Applicants must note that it is expected that all three research studies should be drafted and submitted to at least one journal each within a 10-week period from the award of the contract.




Required Skills or Experience


 




  • Proven record as first author, researcher and/or technical lead for major international publications and reports. Applicants should provide a list and links to peer-reviewed research publications that they served a first and second authors. 

  • Demonstrable experience, technical expertise and proven skills in public health with an emphasis on social and behaviour change working on international development and public health issues with emphasis on social and behaviour change.

  • Excellent writing skills in English, proven research analytical skills and ability to synthesize research findings from diverse materials and sources.

Application Requirements




  • A Technical Proposal detailing an understanding of the scope of work, approach to the activity, technical competence (for both qualitative and quantitative research studies), evidence of similar work done and detailed timeline.

  • A Cost Proposal. This should include budget line items and overall cost for all necessary activities for each of the studies.



All proposals duly submitted (i.e., with all relevant documents requested and before the deadline) will be evaluated and scored by a Procurement Committee using the criteria below:




  • Overall approach proposed for the activity and demonstrated understanding of the requirements outlined in the scope of work (10 points).

  • Technical expertise and competence of proposed applicant or team of applicants. (25 points)

  • Proof of first or second authored research papers published in peer-reviewed journals (20 points)

  • Clarity of timelines to accomplish the tasks assigned (20 points)

  • Cost competitiveness (25 points)
