Job Description


Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE), Inc. doing business as CARE International in Ghana is seeking a talented, motivated and innovative Project Manager – Generating Revenues & Opportunities for Women to Improve Nutrition in Ghana (GROWING) project.



The GROWING project is part of a consortium led by the International Potato Centre and in collaboration with Ghana Health Service, the Women in Agriculture Development Directorate and District Directorates of Agriculture. The project is funded by Global Affairs Canada and will run for 4.5 years starting from March 2022.

JOB PROFILE

The Project Manager (PM) has responsibility for the overall successful implementation of the GROWING Project in CARE International in Ghana in alignment with requirements of the donor requirements, CARE and other recognized programing principles and standards. The PM is required to demonstrate strong leadership and management skills. S/He will provide leadership, technical and managerial support to the project team including people management in line with CARE's core values. S/He will oversee project planning, performance monitoring and quality assurance. The PM will lead continuous interaction with the International Potato Center and collaboration with partners/stakeholders involved to ensure smooth implementation of the project to achieve project outcomes. S/He has responsibility for maintaining an effective working relationship with CARE Canada's Support Team, in close collaboration with his/her line manager.  S/he is directly responsible for effectiveness, timeliness, and quality assurance of sub-grantees with a special emphasis on effective partners/sub-grantee assessments and follow-up monitoring and support. S/He will represent CARE at strategic meetings as needed and will contribute technically to resource mobilization to expand CARE's portfolio in Right to Food Water and Nutrition Security (RtFWNS) and Gender Justice.  



The project manager will report directly to the Program Team Leader for Right to Food Water and Nutrition Security and Climate Justice; and will be based in the Tamale Sub-office and covers project implementation, management and coordination responsibilities in project districts in Northern, North East and Savannah Regions.



Some Key Responsibilities for this role:




  • Provide strategic direction for the project

  • Design, implement and monitor project work plans and budgets in line with the project's results framework, agreed deliverables and donor allocated resources. 

  • Provide management support to all staff on the project including coordination of individual workplans and reports in line with established guidelines and standards for quality program delivery.  

  • Partnerships and Sub Grantee Management and Monitoring

  • Coordinate with the Budgets, Grants and Contracts Management team to conduct risk assessments and annual capacity assessments of partners to ensure partners have adequate capacity for project implementation. 

  • Manage the contractual relationships with International Potato Center and CARE Canada in close collaboration with the Budgets, Grants and Contracts Manager and senior management.

  • Ensure synergy between GROWING project and the rest of the CARE Ghana programs , this includes participating in CARE programs' review meetings and other sharing and learning platforms




Required Skills or Experience


Knowledge

Good knowledge in Project and budget management



Experience




  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in project management; financial empowerment, women empowerment initiatives, agricultural market systems initiatives.

  • Experience in managing program, finance and operations of Global Affairs Canada or other international donor funded projects in a relevant field

  • Experience establishing and maintaining systems for managing project operations. 

  • Experience in building an effective team



Competencies




  • Proven strong facilitation and capacity development skills and experience in participatory approaches. 

  • Good understanding of socio-economic and socio-cultural issues in Northern Ghana

  • Excellent communication and team-leading skills

  • Good spoken English and excellent writing skills 

  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver

  • Excellent writing, presentation and reporting skills

  • Computer skills including MS Word, MS excel and Power Point. 

  • Ability to manage partnerships with local partners 



Qualifications 




  • At least a Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject (Gender, Agri Business, Development Studies, Social Science) “or equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Master’s Degree in any of the above relevant fields
