Serendipalm Co. Ltd. operates a Fairtrade & Organic commercial palm oil project with small holders and a “traditional” village-based oil mill. The project supplies several brands in Europe and in the U.S., is organic and fair trade certified and has a positive impact on rural development in the Eastern Region. It is diversifying into cocoa and other organic and fair products, including value addition that requires processing.



Serendipalm is value-driven with a highly motivated team of 20+ professionals who manage a 300+ local staff, many unskilled. A team from Dr. Bronner’s, Serendipalm’s sister company, provides support in several areas, including accounts and advisory support.




Job Description


Serendipalm Co. Ltd. operates Ghana’s only palm oil commercial project with smallholders and a “traditional” Rural palm oil Mill. The project supplies several brands in Europe and the U.S., is organic and fair trade certified and has a positive impact on rural development in the Eastern Region. Serendipalm is recruiting a Senior Plant Supervisor for a maximum period of three (3) years to manage a plastic waste management project it is setting up in Asuom, Eastern region of Ghana.

 



Responsibilities:




  • Create and put plans in place to provide a reliable and efficient service for the collection, cleaning, pressing, baling and transportation plastic waste to satellite centres and main processing centre in Asuom.

  • Support in installing and managing equipment at the central collection/storage centre.

  • Lead in the implementation of waste management program at the site.

  • Manage the integrated waste management facility program.

  • Manage collectors to collect plastics from various Communities on a daily basis

  • Ensure the weighing of collected plastics and ensure payment to all collectors.  

  • Assist in the review of Standard Operating Procedures for the functional area tasks.

  • Assist in developing and instituting waste management training modules for employees on the project site.

  • Ensure site tidiness and facility maintenance at all times.

  • Provide health and safety training to all collectors and workers on site.

  • Conduct scheduled inspection and audit the performance of site potable.

  • Participate in hazardous waste tracking and provide training to employees on waste as specified in the waste management plan. 

  • Develop collaborative programming and drive engagement with external stakeholders to support and enable implementation of plastics agenda.

  • Lead or support the development of global sustainable plastics agenda.

  • Promote awareness of the impact of environmental decisions across the organization.

  • Monitor and assess the performance of Collectors and develop them in appropriate areas to ensure proper collection and disposal of waste.

  • Coordinate the initial transport and sale of baled plastic wastes to recycling plants in Accra.

  • Keep proper documentation of all activities on site.

  • Shall carry out other assignments as requested by management.




Required Skills or Experience



  • A formal qualification in Environmental Management, Plastic Waste Recycling or other related field at Diploma or Bachelors levels.

  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in plastic waste management.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, emails and database management.

  • Ability to ensure proper coordination and organization of work among team.

  • Self-driven, motivated, team-oriented and able to communicate and work with colleagues in a productive and open style.

  • Ability to analyze a problem and select practical solutions.

  • Excellent written and spoken communication and a proactive approach to effective communication in Twi and English are a must.

  • Willingness to relocate full time to Asuom, Eastern Region

  • Ability to ride a motorbike with a valid license.
