Women Training on the Design and Production of Quality Reusable Sanitary Pads and Kits.
IGEA programme, Menstruate and Educate since 2019 has provided over 3,000 washable/reusable period products to girls in rural communities in Ghana, reaching over 500 girls, 9 schools, and an all-girls’ juvenile prison in Accra. As a result, beneficiary girls' monthly average school absenteeism decreased from an average of 5 days per month to 2 days per month and their confidence in the participation of class lessons increased by at least an extra 25%. Through the community workshops around menstruation and the cultural taboos, the programme has also been able to reach over 500 community leaders, parents, and teachers.
IGEA in partnership with The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust (QCT) under its ‘Youth Ventures Programme’ is working to create opportunities for women through skills training and livelihood interventions as part of efforts to empowering women and scaling-up impact in rural communities in the Upper East Region. The programme is also working with stakeholders in education and health to improve girls transition and performance outcomes at the basic level.
