Job Description


Job Summary

We are looking to hire a project officer to support the PEER (Promoting Education and Educators Rights) Project in Africa, particularly in Eswatini and Mozambique in Southern Africa in a bid to strengthen the capacities of national affiliates to defend their members’ rights and promote quality public education.



Working closely with an internal team in charge of the PEER project, the project officer will participate and contribute to the organization and delivery of project activities, including project plans, reports, workshops, developing policy position papers, advocacy, benchmarking, and networking maintenance. S/he will make logistical arrangements and provide ground support for project activities and will also maintain a monitoring framework to capture outputs and outcomes of the project activities.



Key Roles and Responsibilities




  • Assist in planning project activities in collaboration with member organisations in their respective countries.

  • Monitor the implementation of activities to ensure that they are consistent with the calendar plans and reporting timelines.

  • Assist in organising events, meetings, lobbying, and advocacy initiatives to ensure the successful implementation of the PEER project.

  • Collate and document PEER project activity narrative and financial reports to ensure that they are consistent with the Project Agreement and requirements of Cooperating Partners.

  • Perform other duties as may be required and assigned by the Regional Director.




Required Skills or Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree/diploma or higher qualification in education, international development, or another related field.

  • At least 2-years’ experience in project implementation. Proven experience within a trade union, civil society, students’ union, NGO or similar environment will be a distinct advantage.

  • Communication skills, both written and oral a must. Exceptional writing skills in English will be considered a distinct advantage.

  • Fluency in English and a working knowledge of Portuguese will be an added advantage.



Assets

The following would be welcome additional assets:




  • Professional experience in the education sector

  • Experience working in a multicultural environment is desirable

  • Ability to speak Portuguese and French is an added advantage



Hours of work




  • Normal office hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to, Friday. International travel and work that falls outside normal hours during the week and on weekends is expected.
