Job Summary



Tebihi Ghana seeks the services of a Nutrition Specialist. The ideal candidate will offer technical expertise and assistance in the implementation and management of nutrition initiatives targeting women of reproductive age and children under the age of five.



S/he will be responsible for implementing a comprehensive approach in communities to achieve optimal nutrition. This will involve using a combination of nutrition-sensitive, and nutrition-specific interventions to meet the project's goals, objectives, and targets. The ideal candidate will work with relevant stakeholders in the areas of community quality improvement.



Major Duties and Responsibilities



Program management, monitoring and delivery of results




  • Work with Project Coordinator and external partners to establish monitoring benchmarks, performance indicators, and measurements, to assess and strengthen performance, accountability, coherence and delivery of concrete and sustainable results for the assigned sector in nutrition programmes.

  • Lead monitoring and evaluation exercises, to assess progress and determine required action and interventions to achieve results.

  • Prepare and assess monitoring and evaluation reports to identify gaps, strengths and/or weaknesses in project management. Identify lessons learned and use knowledge gained for development planning and timely intervention to achieve goals.

  • Actively monitor activities through field visits, surveys and/or exchange of information with partners and stakeholders to assess progress. Prepare regular and mandated project reports for management, donors and partners to keep them informed of project progress.



Networking and partnership building




  • Build and sustain effectively close working partnerships with nutrition sector government counterparts through active sharing of information and knowledge.

  • Facilitate activity implementation and build capacity of stakeholders to achieve project goals on maternal and child nutrition, family planning promotion and child protection.



Technical and operational support to program implementation




  • Provide technical guidance and operational support to project team and government partners, on the implementation of nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions at the community level

  • Participate in discussions with community groups to promote nutrition, family planning and child protection issues.



Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building




  • Apply and introduce innovative approaches and good practices to build the capacity of partners and stakeholders, and to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable programme results.

  • Keep abreast, research, benchmark, and implement best and cutting edge practices in nutrition management and information systems. Assess, institutionalize and share best practices and knowledge learned.

  • Organize and implement capacity-building initiatives to enhance the competencies of stakeholders to promote nutrition related project activities.




Required Skills or Experience



  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Community Nutrition. MPH (Nutrition) or MSc/MPhil in Public Health Nutrition is more desirable.

  • A minimum of five years of professional work experience in the planning, programming, and implementation of programmes focused on Health and Nutrition.

  • Understanding of the local context of Northern Ghana especially the Upper East region and Bawku area.

  • Experience working on a donor funded project is desirable.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team consisting of people with different technical backgrounds and with varying levels of technical training.

  • Strong initiative and self-motivation are required, along with a commitment to teamwork and effectiveness within a dynamic multi-disciplinary project.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and team management skills.

  • Ability to commit 100% to a project.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint Presentation is a must.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are required.
