  • LOCATION: Accra, Ghana

  • ASSIGNMENT LENGTH: 3-4 months




POSITION SUMMARY


An International NGO is seeking a motivated Business Development Consultant with experience in international development. This role will be critical to advancing the organization’s portfolio in Ghana, and its mission of advancing health, education, socioeconomic, and environmental outcomes for vulnerable populations. The Business Development Consultant will work with the Ghana staff, and in close collaboration with its U.S.-based Business Development staff, to identify and pursue strategic business development opportunities in Ghana. The Consultant will lead the Ghana office in identifying opportunities (with a donor focus on US and other governments, multi-lateral organizations, and large foundations); doing capture research and information gathering; and writing and/or managing live proposals. In performing these duties, the Consultant will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of colleagues and partner organizations and cultivate positive relationships with international and national health and development organizations to foster successful partnerships. 


 


RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Work closely with the Acting Country Representative, as well as other colleagues across the organization, to identify strategic opportunities; and to gather early intelligence and conduct capture planning on donor initiatives and funding solicitations.

  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with current and potential program and research partners including through long-term mechanisms such as strategic alliances or research program consortia.

  • Analyze solicitations for Ghana issued by US and other governments, multi-lateral organizations, and large foundations; collaborate with program staff to assess the strategic importance and relevance of procurements; explore and develop partnership options; and provide information and recommendations to inform decision-making about the opportunity.

  • Under the direction of the Acting Country Representative, lead the proposal development process, working closely with program and operations staff and partner organizations.

  • Draft proposal outline, and potentially sections of technical proposals such as the management plan, capability, and staffing sections, and other areas as needed.

  • Coordinate the development of cost proposals with technical staff as well as Finance and Grants & Contracts staff.

  • Review draft and final proposals to ensure synergy between the technical and cost proposals and responsiveness to the solicitation.

  • Contribute to the Ghana office meeting its revenue targets.




Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum of six years’ experience working in international development.

  • At least six years of experience in successful business and proposal development including multi-year multi-million/complex solicitations for donors such as US and other governments, multi-lateral organizations, large foundations, and/or corporations.

  • In-depth knowledge of US Government donor agencies (e.g., USAID, CDC, NIH). Experience with global development assistance (African, European, Asian, etc.) and major charitable foundations based in the US and internationally highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of international health and development issues, preferably in the following research areas: sexual and reproductive health, HIV, gender equality, adolescent health and well-being, adolescent and youth, education, climate change).

  • Ability to work collaboratively with and/or manage teams of multi-disciplinary staff and partner agencies under tight deadlines, and to work well across countries and in a multicultural team environment.

  • Initiative, superior organizational ability, good interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (in English) to present the organization’s business development opportunities and proposal plans in a concise and articulate way, and for drafting compelling and responsive content for technical and commercial tenders. Knowledge of French is a bonus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development or related field required. Master’s degree or equivalent desirable.
