ABOUT THE ROLE



The Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Officer (SHEQ Officer) shall be primarily responsible for ensuring that the company’s processes comply with statutory regulations, industry-specific guidelines, and the requirements of the relevant ISO standards. The incumbent shall also be responsible for ensuring that the company’s operations constantly comply with the requirements of the OHSE and Quality management systems. He/she shall monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of processes, policies, procedures, and initiatives.



 



FUNCTIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES




  1. ​Shall be conversant with all company processes and procedures, and with national policies and regulations regarding HSEQ matters

  2. Documentation and Reporting:

    1. Create and maintain quality and HSE documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality manuals, checklists, and inspection reports.

    2. Act as document control officer for specific category of manual documents. 



  3. Auditing, monitoring and reporting;

    1. Shall be part of TAGG’s internal audit team, and shall conduct audits of the OHSE MS, and QMS

    2. Monitoring compliance to company service level agreements, with respect to OHSE and Quality requirements

    3. Monitoring staff and Contractor compliance to OHS&E regulations, guidelines, and standards

    4. Monitoring and reporting on the status of incident investigations, nonconformities, hazards, quality and OHSE objectives, etc

    5. Conducting inspections on TAGG facilities, TAGG controlled locations, and other workplaces, and reporting on same.

    6. Conducting compliance audits on the implementation of specific company processes, procedures, initiatives and policies

    7. Monitoring the storage, transportation and disposal of waste generated from company activities to ensure compliance with environmental and company regulations

    8. Auditing and reporting on the effectiveness of corrective actions to address incidents and nonconformities.

    9. Verifying the completion of actions to address reported hazards, process risks, nonconformities, etc.

    10. Monitoring the control, use and storage of hazardous materials used by TAGGL in its operations



  4. Communication and sensitization

    1. Communicate quality & HSE issues and trends to relevant stakeholders and provide recommendations for improvement.

    2. Researching and generating materials for sensitizing employees on various OHSE and quality topics.

    3. Creating general SHEQ awareness through appropriate communication (posters, emails, notices, social media platforms etc.)



  5. Training & Development.

    1. Providing or initiating OHS&E induction and training for all category of staff, visitors and contractors

    2. Facilitating SHEQ trainings

    3. Ensure that employees are aware of and adhere to quality-related policies and procedures.



  6. Conducting risk assessment and monitor the implementation of controls in risk assessments across the company.

  7. Take responsibility for all aspects of quality improvement including implementation of opportunities for improvement, and change management, to enable senior & middle level managers to focus on the impact of quality improvement measures

  8. Assisting with incident investigations and monitoring the implementation of corrective actions

  9. Compile and analyse quality data to generate reports and metrics on quality performance.

  10. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to quality management.

  11. Assisting the SHEQ manager with any other duties related to the company’s management systems on Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality.




Required Skills or Experience



EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE




  • BSc/BA in Health and Safety, Engineering, or relevant field

  • OHSE and quality Certifications

  • At least 2 years’ post-national service experience in OHSE and quality management.

  • Technical skills relevant to understanding operations in an engineering company

  • Experience in internal auditing will be a plus.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES




  • Judgment and decision-making skills

  • In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g., OSHA/EPA) and procedures

  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices

  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics

  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus

  • Outstanding organizational skills

  • Diligent with great attention to detail

  • Data analysis
