Job Description


A vacancy exists in our Mining Department for the position of:: SENIOR MINE SUPERVISOR



JOB PURPOSE



To coordinate, control open pit and ore haulage activities and operations to achieve short to medium term production targets and detect violation of safety/mining regulations in all operational areas on the Mine and recommend intervention strategies.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Ensure employee Health and safety are secured by complying with all company safety standards as well as national regulatory requirements;

  • Ensure personal protective equipment are readily made available, maintained and appropriately used at all times;

  • Supervise and coordinate open pit activities such as stripping, drilling, blasting, and loading among other;

  • Liaise and coordinate the activities between the Planning and Production sections to ensure that production targets are achieved as planned;

  • Develop, review and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all mining and related tasks and activities;

  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are well informed of all safety and production updates and concerns;

  • Ensure the mine water abstraction points for collection of water for dust suppression are always available for utilization.

  • Supervise the Mining Contractor to deliver optimal pit performance as well as other ancillary works;

  • Assist the Mine Foreman to effectively supervise the ore haulage contractors to meet their targets;

  • Assist the Mine Foreman to ensure all mine access roads are well maintained;

  • Ensure the rented equipment hours of work is accurately recorded;

  • Assist in work scheduling and planning by providing job specific instructions on daily basis and monitor progress;

  • Frequently communicate with the Mine Manager and other supervisors to confirm production targets;

  • Develop and implement on-the-job training interventions for mining field crew to improve their competencies and stay abreast of modern practices;

  • Train and mentor newly hired production staff in ore spotting, ROMPAD management, reconciliation programs and other best industry practices;

  • Ensure all mining daily activities are accurately recorded and reported by the Mine Supervisors at the end of every shift;

  • Submit reports on all accidents/incidents including near misses that happen during the shift;

  • Perform any other related duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.




Required Skills or Experience


Knowledge




  • Must have a minimum of Diploma in Mining Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution;

  • Mine Captain Certificate issued by the Mines Inspectorate of the Minerals Commission of Ghana would be an added advantage;

  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years’ post qualification work experience as a shift Supervisor or Mine Foreman in an open pit mining environment with demonstrable leadership competencies;

  • Working knowledge of the Mining Act and related regulations of the Republic of Ghana, and able to interpret and apply these laws and regulations;

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and legislative requirements;

  • Strong computer literacy skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

  • Willingness and ability to perform field work in an extreme mining environment;

  • Must be results and action oriented person;

  • Must have a valid Ghanaian license, minimum of five (5) years driving experience, and ability to drive in rough terrain;
