Job Description

Reports To: Production & Maintenance Engineer

Job Purpose

Uses a working knowledge of electrical systems to conduct maintenance, fault-finding, and diagnostics on existing systems.

Installs new electrical systems, including lighting and heating, to customer standards and to maintain those systems while

upholding safety guidelines and complying with codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design or assist in the layout design process, identify parts and order needed parts and equipment, and be able to perform installation or assist in the installation process.


• Inspect a design plan, evaluate an electrical system and its components or actively test electronic equipment and provide recommendations or repairs procedures.


• Know how to test circuits using diagnostic tools, create solutions and have the ability to complete basic repair work.


• Ensure all circuits and parts are correctly installed and function as intended.


• Provide technical assistance and resolution when electrical or engineering problems are encountered


• Calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical instruments or testing equipment


• Analyze and interpret test/commissioning information to resolve design-related problems


• Conduct inspections for quality control and assurance programs, reporting findings and recommendations


• Plan, schedule and monitor work of support personnel to assist supervisor


• Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance


• Perform preventative maintenance to ensure the electrical systems are always up-to-date and safe.


• Keep detailed documentation on all the systems and equipment that have been worked on.


• Create a user’s manual, updating a maintenance log or providing regular reports on the tasks that have been completed.

Required Skills or Experience

• City and Guilds or NVTI (part 1&2) Electrical certification or both with 8 years industrial working experience.


• City & Guilds Electrical Technician Part 3 or HND Electrical (Power Option) with a minimum of 3 years' industrial working experience.

Knowledge And Skills Required

• Experience in electrical maintenance or engineering in industrial controllers.


• Knowledge of electrical codes and best practices is required


• Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, system design software such as LabVIEW and CAD/CAM software.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
