  • DEPT: Finance Department

  • REPORTS TO: Director, EMEA Internal Controls , Sub Regional Controller


 


 


POSITION SUMMARY



  • Leads and manages the Ghana Finance Team (including Management Accounts and Payroll) ensuring up-to-date and compliant accounting records.

  • Responsible for overseeing all tax affairs, statutory accounting and fiscal issues and ensuring adherence to all local fiscal and corporate regulations.

  • Responsible for company compliance to corporate finance policies and standard reports (including SOX).

  • Responsible for actively supporting Commercial and Operational Departments in their business development, cost reduction and any other projects.


MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES


All Finance Manager responsibilities relating to the above functions, leading a team of 4 directs


 


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS


Interacts with all levels throughout the Ghana entities, local financial institutions, local auditors, local tax authorities, local tax advisers, local payroll and pension outsourcing, local vendors and local distributors. Interacts with Regional Finance, Internal Audit and global Corporate Finance, Tax and Treasury departments.


 



Performance Standards and Expectations


Overseeing Ghana financial matters




  • Ensures that the Finance department  performs to the company's standards.

  • Ensure that the finance and accounting records and systems are functioning effectively and correctly record the business and position of the Company.

  • Work closely with the Country Director to ensure achievement of country financial objectives.

  • Liaise closely with regional finance team on all country financial issues.

  • Maintains Finance departmental budget.


Responsibilities over Accounting, Treasury, Tax and Fiscal, Procedures and Policies




  • Financial Statements reports to meet Local Statutory Reporting requirements.


Maintains sound accounting policies and procedures for areas of Business




  • Overall sound internal control procedures are identified, documented and enforced.

  • Ensures that accurate and timely filing of company tax returns – corporate and income taxes, VAT, social security etc.

  • Ensures that the Ghana entity comply with Sarbanes & Oxley Act requirements.

  • Inventory/Cost of goods sold – including development of inventory standards and costing physical inventory procedures.

  • Ensures Distributor compliance with company requirements concerning VAT registrations and proof of citizenship

  • Keeps tax planning opportunities under review.

  • Monitors distributor compliance with fiscal and legal requirements.

  • Ensures the company complies with all reporting requirements necessary.


Ensure that USA / EMEA / Corporate Reporting Deadlines are met for each market, for which they are responsible




  • Monthly Financial Statements, as per Corporate Policy – due by 4th work day each month 

  • Monthly supplementary Financial Reports, as per Corporate requirements – due by 5th work day each month 

  • Timely completion of Annual Reporting Package.

  • Reconciles Balance sheet reconciliations including Inter-co accounts on a monthly basis

  • Timely responsiveness to Corporate / local requests for information


Responsibilities relating to Financial Inventory Control, of Ghana inventory




  • Financial Inventory Control.

  • Ensures that finance fulfils all accounting obligations for the Ghana inventory.

  • Inventory Reserves.

  • Ensures that adequate Inventory Reserves, for excess and obsolete inventories, are created and maintained in the accounts, in accordance with Corporate Policy.


Other Financial and Internal Control Responsibilities




  • Monitoring and supporting Business Development.

  • Actively supports Operations, Sales, Marketing Managers and Country Director in developing sales and meeting budgeted targets. Act as internal consultant for other departments, particularly in achieving Operating Income targets.

  • Analyzes on a monthly basis Actual vs. forecast vs. Budget results, identifying key variances and proposing corrective actions aimed at achieving budgeted Operating Income Targets.

  • Coordinates timely monthly issuance of 90 Days Plan and Strategic Plan

  • Reviews competitive position of the company, making recommendations to senior management

  • Ensures detailed tracking and cost analyses for all major sales events

  • Ensures detailed tracking of travel & entertainment costs, advertising and promotional costs, professional fees

  • Performs on-going analysis of costs with the continual goal of reducing costs and improving efficiency Sarbanes Oxley

  • Monitor and facilitates the maintenance of key Sarbanes Oxley controls for the Ghana 

  • African entity by ensuring that the self assessment of controls is planned and performed effectively.

  • Assume overall responsibility for the coordination of Sarbanes Oxley compliance for the Ghana entity.

  • Leading regular design effectiveness reviews for Ghana giving insightful guidance to process owners on all issues including the operation of key controls. 

  • Providing support to all Ghana sub-process owners, process owners and line management in order to achieve Sarbanes Oxley compliance.

  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with all key business partners within Ghana including establishing and managing relationships with internal and external audit.

  • As required, participate in reviews, assignments or projects which involve business change ensuring that Sarbanes Oxley relevant matters are fully considered as part of the project. 


Team Management and Development




  • Build strong, positive relationships with your team. 

  • Monitor team performance, identify and resolve issues.

  • Manage a team of experienced part qualified and clerical accounting staff.

  • Provides leadership, motivation and guidance to the staff. Ensure that staff are clear on how their roles contribute to the strategic and local success of the business. To conduct appraisals, training, recruitment and disciplinary issues as they arise. In order to be able to play a clear role in these areas a strong relationship will need to be developed with the Finance team and a good understanding of the strong and weak areas of each individual.

  • Leads development and identifies learning and development needs for the Finance team.

  • Ensures that all administrative activities essential to the running of the Finance department are adhered to, including but not limited to records of: timekeeping; overtime; attendance; training; disciplinary action etc. by auditing and monitoring of direct reports activities.

  • Administer company policies and maintain departmental conformance with company policies, practices, and regulations. Immediately inform upper management of any incidents or concerns of the employees and/or Distributors.

  • Sets goals and standards for department, once previous objectives are reached and obtained. 





Required Skills or Experience




  • Good all round knowledge of local corporate and income taxes, local GAAP  and US GAAP

  • Professional qualification

  • 8 years' experience

  • Very strong Supervisor and interpersonal skills demonstrated leadership skills and a team player

  • Experienced in PC-based accounting systems, both use and implementation; proficient with EXCEL. Knowledge of Oracle advantageous

  • Ability to communicate in a professional way with financial institutions, distributors and local staff
