  • Report To: Director/General Manager Operations


  Job Brief  



The Job holder will be a change-agent responsible for overseeing all programmes by planning, implementing and monitoring all development-oriented activities within the organization. He/she will display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, self-confidence and good listening ability. 



Director of Development responsibilities:  




  • Provide overall leadership and management of the Foundation’s programs including leading the planning phase, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects, ensuring quality of projects and field level management is of the highest standards.

  • Enforce quality assurance with all projects being implemented by providing line management support to all Project Managers, Programme Officers and Volunteer Coordinators.

  • Support the translating of the Foundation’s global vision, strategies and methodologies into project implementation and ensuring project design and implementation are geared towards achieving community impact.

  • Lead the process for developing and growing the Foundation’s programmes to reflect a fair balance in the programme portfolios that will include but not limited to Livelihood development programmes, social interventions and Health&Sports programme.

  • Provide leadership to Programme Managers and Officers in the management of field resources and project budgets and ensure these are used in compliance with approved guidelines (vehicle management etc)

  • Assess programme staff capacity needs and facilitate appropriate training.

  • Lead and manage by motivating employees to remain optimistic even when faced with challenges and encourage good performance and values

  • Allocate resources and supplies to ensure staff and volunteers can complete their responsibilities to their highest potential.

  • Ensure that all implemented activities are relevant to mission and vision of the organization.

  • Engage the external community to build and maintain essential relationships

  • Support and connect with the population targeted by the NGO

  • Implement the development plan in accordance with ethical organizational and legal principles by supervising the activities being performed by Program Managers and Program officers.

  • Develop and manage timelines for activities to ensure strategic plans are carried out in a timely manner. 




Required Skills or Experience




  • Master’s Degree in Project Management/Development studies/ Social Work or any other relevant field

  • Minimum of 3-5years experience in a Managerial role with a track record of executed projects

  • Skilled in partnering with relevant instutions&authorities, both international and local NGO’s to enhance the mission and vision of the organization

  • Ability to develop tangible and insightful programs

  • Strong project management and financial analysis skills

  • Ability to structure complex tasks and translate targets into work plan

  • Track record of building strong stakeholder relationships
