Job Description



JOB PURPOSE

Ensuring thorough testing of raw faecal materials, faecal sludge, grits and plant effluent to meet established EPA quality standards, interpreting data from routine and non-routine analyses, ensuring proper operation of all laboratory equipment, conducting SPC on processes and equipment. Conducting laboratory tests / analyzing test results of appropriate samples and advising the Process team appropriately and timely for necessary corrective action.



REPORTS TO:          Head of Lab. Quality Control and Research



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Maintain inventory of chemicals and materials required for continuous sample testing and prepare requisitions for additional supplies needed.

  • Presenting daily, weekly and monthly quality report, establishing performance standards for laboratory technicians.

  • Documentation, document management & archiving.

  • Appraisal and review of Junior staffs’ performance,

  • Recommending for approval capital and operational expenditures in line with budget.

  • Would assist the Quality Control Officer / Research Officer when necessary in data acquisition for various reports needed.

  • Would also ensure daily analytical checks of the parameters as; BOD, COD, DO, TDS, TSS, and other parameters required of the section.

  • Any other duty that may be assigned by the Head of Department.




Required Skills or Experience




  • B.Sc. in Chemistry, Bio- Chemistry, Bacteriology, Industrial Chemistry, Laboratory technology any other equivalent qualification from a recognized university.

  • At least 5 years’ experience with at least 2 years in supervisory role in water quality and waste water quality management.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED




  • Knowledge of the current regulations and the methods used for sample collection and analysis 

  • Ability to collect data, analyze, interpret and make meaningful suggestions to operations. 

  • Knowledge of laboratory principles, practices and techniques of chemistry, biology and microbiological. 

  • Knowledge of sewage treatment and disposal, industrial wastes, stream pollution or the methods for treating and testing water supply systems, depending on area of assignment. 

  • Knowledge of local and internationally applicable laws and regulations pertaining to water quality, wastewater treatment and data validity. 

  • Skill in laboratory techniques, and in following and adapting scientific methods and adapting scientific methods and procedures. 

  • Ability to train, instruct and/or oversee personnel
